Phillis Ii Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD CEFE GHGB CC

Love guards the roses of thy lipsA
And flies about them like a beeB
If I approach he forward skipsA
And if I kiss he stingeth meB
-
Love in thine eyes doth build his bowerC
And sleeps within their pretty shineD
And if I look the boy will lowerC
And from their orbs shoot shafts divineD
-
Love works thy heart within his fireC
And in my tears doth firm the sameE
And if I tempt it will retireF
And of my plaints doth make a gameE
-
Love let me cull her choicest flowersG
And pity me and calm her eyeH
Make soft her heart dissolve her lowersG
Then will I praise thy deityB
-
But if thou do not Love I'll truly serve herC
In spite of thee and by firm faith deserve herC
