The Death-bed Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JFJF

We watch'd her breathing thro' the nightA
Her breathing soft and lowB
As in her breast the wave of lifeC
Kept heaving to and froB
-
So silently we seem'd to speakD
So slowly moved aboutE
As we had lent her half our powersF
To eke her living outE
-
Our very hopes belied our fearsG
Our fears our hopes beliedH
We thought her dying when she sleptI
And sleeping when she diedH
-
For when the morn came dim and sadJ
And chill with early showersF
Her quiet eyelids closed she hadJ
Another morn than oursF
