Sigh on sad heart for Love's eclipse	A
And Beauty's fairest queen	B
Though 'tis not for my peasant lips	A
To soil her name between	B
A king might lay his sceptre down	C
But I am poor and nought	D
The brow should wear a golden crown	C
That wears her in its thought	D
The diamonds glancing in her hair	E
Whose sudden beams surprise	F
Might bid such humble hopes beware	E
The glancing of her eyes	F
Yet looking once I look'd too long	G
And if my love is sin	H
Death follows on the heels of wrong	G
And kills the crime within	H
Her dress seem'd wove of lily leaves	I
It was so pure and fine	J
O lofty wears and lowly weaves	I
But hodden gray is mine	J
And homely hose must step apart	D
Where garter'd princes stand	D
But may he wear my love at heart	D
That wins her lily hand	D
Alas there's far from russet frieze	K
To silks and satin gowns	L
But I doubt if God made like degrees	K
In courtly hearts and clowns	L
My father wrong'd a maiden's mirth	M
And brought her cheeks to blame	N
And all that's lordly of my birth	M
Is my reproach and shame	N
'Tis vain to weep 'tis vain to sigh	O
'Tis vain this idle speech	P
For where her happy pearls do lie	O
My tears may never reach	P
Yet when I'm gone e'en lofty pride	D
May say of what has been	H
His love was nobly born and died	D
Though all the rest was mean	B
My speech is rude but speech is weak	Q
Such love as mine to tell	R
Yet had I words I dare not speak	Q
So Lady fare thee well	R
I will not wish thy better state	D
Was one of low degree	S
But I must weep that partial fate	D
Made such a churl of me	S
