Hymeneal Retrospections Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLML NONO PQPQ CRCR

O Kate my dear Partner through joy and through strifeA
When I look back at Hymen's dear dayB
Not a lovelier bride ever chang'd to a wifeA
Though you're now so old wizen'd and grayB
-
Those eyes then were stars shining rulers of fateC
But as liquid as stars in a poolD
Though now they're so dim they appear my dear KateC
Just like gooseberries boil'd for a foolD
-
That brow was like marble so smooth and so fairE
Though it's wrinkled so crookedly nowF
As if time when those furrows were made by the shareE
Had been tipsy whilst driving his ploughF
-
Your nose it was such as the sculptors all choseG
When a Venus demanded their skillH
Though now it can hardly be reckon'd a noseG
But a sort of Poll Parroty billH
-
Your mouth it was then quite a bait for the beesI
Such a nectar there hung on each lipJ
Though now it has taken that lemon like squeezeI
Not a blue bottle comes for a sipJ
-
Your chin it was one of Love's favorite hauntsK
From its dimple he could not get looseL
Though now the neat hand of a barber it wantsM
Or a singe like the breast of a gooseL
-
How rich were those locks so abundant and fullN
With their ringlets of auburn so deepO
Though now they look only like frizzles of woolN
By a bramble torn off from a sheepO
-
That neck not a swan could excel it in graceP
While in whiteness it vied with your armsQ
Though now a grave 'kerchief you properly placeP
To conceal that scrag end of your charmsQ
-
Your figure was tall then and perfectly straightC
Though it now has two twists from uprightR
But bless you still bless you my Partner my KateC
Though you be such a perfect old frightR
