As It Fell Upon A Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH ICIC JKJK

Oh what's befallen Bessy BrownA
She stands so squalling in the streetB
She's let her pitcher tumble downA
And all the water's at her feetB
-
The little school boys stood aboutC
And laugh'd to see her pumping pumpingD
Now with a curtsey to the spoutC
And then upon her tiptoes jumpingD
-
Long time she waited for her neighborsE
To have their turns but she must loseF
The watery wages of her laborsE
Except a little in her shoesF
-
Without a voice to tell her taleG
And ugly transport in her faceH
All like a jugless nightingaleG
She thinks of her bereav d caseH
-
At last she sobs she cries she screamsI
And pours her flood of sorrows outC
From eyes and mouth in mingled streamsI
Just like the lion on the spoutC
-
For well poor Bessy knows her motherJ
Must lose her tea for water's lackK
That Sukey burns and baby brotherJ
Must be dryrubb'd with huck a backK
