The chilly days of March are hereA
The raw cold winds are blowingB
All nature now is bleak and drearA
But piercing winds and frosts are goingB
-
But frosts nor snows nor biting blastC
Can chill the warmth within each heartD
When comes around the day at lastC
To sainted mem'ry set apartD
-
For many centuries thy nameE
St Patrick has been warmly bless'dF
And many more thy righteous fameE
Shall animate each Christian breastF
-
Each Christian and each patriot tooG
Shall celebrate for years the dayH
And show the world that they are trueG
To virtuous worth long pass'd awayH
-
Oh Ireland for many yearsI
Unhappy thou hast been and soreA
But long we're thankful thro' our tearsJ
Sweet songs have sounded from thy shoreA
-
While other lands in bitter strifeK
Fought wildly for kingship or goldL
The words of peace the way of lifeK
Within fair Ireland were toldL
-
The Druid priests their rites forboreA
And listen'd to the words that fellM
From Patrick's pious lips as o'erA
The land he told his story wellM
-
His lips told of the way of lifeK
His self denying actions tooG
Enforc'd the truth where all was rifeK
With wrongful rites of darken'd hueG
-
The people listen'd to his voiceN
And learn'd to love the faith he taughtO
When fruits arose in after yearsI
They bless'd the name of him who wroughtO
-
Who wrought successfully to placeP
Religion's fight within the landQ
A benefit to all his raceP
At home or on a foreign strandQ
-
Religion's flight shone clear and brightR
And then the lesser lights appear'dS
Learning arose with quiet mightR
And simple minds it rais'd and cheer'dS
-
Old Tara's heathen temple rungT
With sounds whose waves are rolling yetU
From which unmeasur'd good has sprungT
Which grateful hearts will not forgetU
-
The triple leaf St Patrick's flow'rA
Long may it grow long may it bearA
Those symbols of the mighty Pow'rA
That rules the sea the earth the airA
-
The Shamrock may our hearts entwineV
And meet in one as it tho' threeA
And may your patron Saint and mineV
Our patron saint forever beA
