Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IAJA KLKL AMAM KGKG NOIO PQPQ RSRS TUTU AAAA VAVA| The chilly days of March are here | A |
| The raw cold winds are blowing | B |
| All nature now is bleak and drear | A |
| But piercing winds and frosts are going | B |
| - | |
| But frosts nor snows nor biting blast | C |
| Can chill the warmth within each heart | D |
| When comes around the day at last | C |
| To sainted mem'ry set apart | D |
| - | |
| For many centuries thy name | E |
| St Patrick has been warmly bless'd | F |
| And many more thy righteous fame | E |
| Shall animate each Christian breast | F |
| - | |
| Each Christian and each patriot too | G |
| Shall celebrate for years the day | H |
| And show the world that they are true | G |
| To virtuous worth long pass'd away | H |
| - | |
| Oh Ireland for many years | I |
| Unhappy thou hast been and sore | A |
| But long we're thankful thro' our tears | J |
| Sweet songs have sounded from thy shore | A |
| - | |
| While other lands in bitter strife | K |
| Fought wildly for kingship or gold | L |
| The words of peace the way of life | K |
| Within fair Ireland were told | L |
| - | |
| The Druid priests their rites forbore | A |
| And listen'd to the words that fell | M |
| From Patrick's pious lips as o'er | A |
| The land he told his story well | M |
| - | |
| His lips told of the way of life | K |
| His self denying actions too | G |
| Enforc'd the truth where all was rife | K |
| With wrongful rites of darken'd hue | G |
| - | |
| The people listen'd to his voice | N |
| And learn'd to love the faith he taught | O |
| When fruits arose in after years | I |
| They bless'd the name of him who wrought | O |
| - | |
| Who wrought successfully to place | P |
| Religion's fight within the land | Q |
| A benefit to all his race | P |
| At home or on a foreign strand | Q |
| - | |
| Religion's flight shone clear and bright | R |
| And then the lesser lights appear'd | S |
| Learning arose with quiet might | R |
| And simple minds it rais'd and cheer'd | S |
| - | |
| Old Tara's heathen temple rung | T |
| With sounds whose waves are rolling yet | U |
| From which unmeasur'd good has sprung | T |
| Which grateful hearts will not forget | U |
| - | |
| The triple leaf St Patrick's flow'r | A |
| Long may it grow long may it bear | A |
| Those symbols of the mighty Pow'r | A |
| That rules the sea the earth the air | A |
| - | |
| The Shamrock may our hearts entwine | V |
| And meet in one as it tho' three | A |
| And may your patron Saint and mine | V |
| Our patron saint forever be | A |
