Slander Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJKJ LMLMNONO

Of all the poison plants that growA
And flourish in the human breastB
No other plant perhaps hath soA
Deep clench'd a root or peaceful restB
-
No other plant has such a fruitC
At once so sweet and deadly tooD
As that which loads each branch and shootC
And falls for me to eat and youD
-
Fell jealousy the monster wildE
Whose green eyes roll in frenzy roundF
His ravages are small and mildE
To thine and narrow'r far his groundF
-
His pow'r is felt around his homeG
But who can gauge the sway of thineH
Which reaches high to heaven's domeG
And acts within the darksome mineH
-
Thy poison drops distil each hourI
To blight to ruin and destroyJ
And find with dark insidious pow'rK
The heart of woman man and boyJ
-
What antidote can neutralizeL
Thy baneful force thy potent spellM
For deepest danger ever liesL
Within this poison draught of hellM
And men will drink with eager lipN
The cup thou holdest forth to themO
Not knowing that the draught they sipN
May their and other souls condemnO
