While poets sing in lofty strain	A
And ask where Rome and Carthage are	B
This humble village on the plain	A
To many hearts is dearer far	B

Then to these hearts I'll sing my lay	C
With humble Kelvin for my theme	D
My song shall be of life to day	C
And not a retrospective dream	D

Of Kelvin's Grove some love lorn swain	A
Sang sweetly many years ago	E
And I shall sound the name again	F
Although I may not sound it so	E

Of Kelvin's bonnie lasses I	G
Can sing tho' not so well as he	H
And Kelvin's groves in passing by	G
I can repeat have charms for me	H

And Kelvin's stream where fishes glide	I
And timid fowl their plumage lave	J
Where drooping willows by its side	I
Their graceful branches gently wave	J

Here happiness and plenty reign	A
And e'en refinement too is seen	K
For music sends its cheering strain	A
Where flowers grow within the green	K

Here virtuous dames with busy hand	L
Untiring do what should be done	M
And sons and fathers till the land	L
And to each manly duty run	M
	-
The winsome maids with willing hearts	N
In youthful beauty all aglow	E
Right cheerfully perform their parts	N
Where duty's voice may bid them go	E

Oh may their graceful figures long	O
Their youthful energy retain	A
And may they meet no heartless wrong	O
To fill their gentle souls with pain	A

As yet there is no village bell	P
Save that which rings the call to school	Q
Where festive youth drink at the well	P
Which flows from knowledge' sparkling pool	Q

And yet whene'er the Sabbath comes	R
Or week night held for praise and prayer	S
No need for signal bells and drums	R
Each knows the time and he is there	S

There is the daughter there the son	M
To kneel in humble prayer to God	T
And those whose race is well nigh run	M
Who humbly kiss the chast'ning rod	T

Oh blest content and lowly life	U
That blunts Ambition's biting sting	V
Unknown to thee the bitter strife	U
Which proud refinements often bring	V
