How Nature's Beauties Should Be Viewed Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFFF DGDG HIHI JKJK LALA MNMN

Should man with microscopic eyeA
View the details of Nature's planB
Into each nook and corner pryA
And needlessly the hidden scanB
-
Should he inspect each bud and flow'rC
With close unmeant uncall'd for lookD
And by his analytic pow'rC
Dissolve each charm of vale or brookD
-
Should he resolve the rainbow's huesE
Into their prime and simple formsF
And thus the charm dispel unlooseF
Which gladdens us amid the stormsF
-
Should he with keen inquiring lookD
Insist on knowing seeing allG
Which nature made a sealed bookD
On this our strange terrestrial ballG
-
'Tis hard to draw the line indeedH
When we should pry and when refrainI
But science surely has its needH
Of knowledge gain'd and also painI
-
The blooming flow'r the flutt'ring leafJ
Have surely charms we all can tellK
And analysing brings to griefJ
The charms we felt and knew so wellK
-
Th' untutor'd savage roaming wildL
Could view the rainbow in the skyA
And tho' in science but a childL
He saw with gladden'd heart and eyeA
-
And so I apprehend that weM
Should oft restrain our thoughts and sightN
Nor delve too far nor try to seeM
With deeper but more painful lightN
