Farewell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHBH IJKJ BLBL MNON PQRQ STUV WSBS

Farewell and know where'er I roamA
My heart still turns to theeB
From spacious halls or trackless woodsC
Or on the foaming seaB
-
Farewell my friend oh could I sayD
My love my own to youE
My outlook on this dreary worldF
Would have a brighter hueE
-
But duty calls and I must goG
E'en now with outstretch'd handH
I take a sad sad leave of theeB
To dwell in distant landH
-
For thy sweet sake I'll onward toilI
In earnest patient strifeJ
Content if thou shalt know I liveK
An earnest useful lifeJ
-
And if in future years thou'rt freeB
And none has gain'd thy heartL
Oh darling wilt thou come to meB
And we shall never partL
-
My shatter'd life will then be sweetM
My spirit shall rejoiceN
And weariness forsake my frameO
At thy dear loving voiceN
-
Farewell farewell and oh the wordsP
Dwell on my falt'ring tongueQ
Oh sad despairing accents nowR
That from my lips are wrungQ
-
O God look down in gracious loveS
And for my pray'rs and tearsT
Oh guide and bless that gentle maidU
Through all the coming yearsV
-
And if on earth we meet no moreW
Grant in thy boundless loveS
That I till death may faithful beB
And meet with her aboveS
