A Swain To His Sweetheart Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGH IJIK KLML NONO

What subtle charm is in thy voiceA
That ever when I hear its toneB
My heart doth pleasantly rejoiceA
And fondly turns to thee aloneB
-
The mem'ries of a toilsome lifeC
Are banish'd by its potent spellD
And earthly care and earthly strifeC
No whisper'd sorrows dare to tellD
-
Where hope had fled new hope inspiresE
Comes life where lately life had goneF
New purposes my bosom firesG
To battle hard and bravely onH
-
What charm dwells in thine eye of blueI
That thus by its magnetic pow'rJ
The world to me hath brighter hueI
And happier grows each passing hourK
-
With virtuous thought and pure desireK
Thine eyes look forth from lofty soulL
Contagious then my thoughts aspireM
To reach with thee thy lofty goalL
-
Thine eyes contemptuously look downN
On all that's sordid mean and lowO
Around thy head is virtue's crownN
About the feet is virtue's snowO
