Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDDEEFGHHIIJJKKL LMMJJNOMMPPQQRSSTJJThe stream is very sweet | A |
To day Just see the swallow dart | B |
How fleet | A |
It sent a shiver to my heart | B |
If he had lived you say | C |
Well well if he had lived what then | D |
Some men | D |
Will always argue yes I know of course | E |
The argument has force | E |
If he had lived he might have changed | F |
From bad to worse | G |
Nay my shrewd balance setter | H |
Why not from good to better | H |
Why not to best to joy | I |
And splendour O my boy | I |
I did not want this argument in the least | J |
My soul had ceased | J |
From doubt and questioning | K |
That swallow's wing | K |
What a transcendent rush | L |
Hush hush | L |
Or if you talk talk low | M |
For do you know | M |
Just as the swallow dipt | J |
I felt as if a soft hand slipt | J |
Its fingers into mine he's near | N |
He's with us 'tis not right the child should hear | O |
This jangling low then low | M |
Or this is better go | M |
Go darling play upon the bank | P |
And prank | P |
Your hair with daisy and with buttercup | Q |
And we will meet you higher up | Q |
Now then If he had lived if my sweet son | R |
Had lived You stare | S |
There there | S |
'Tis gone 'tis gone | T |
It was the swallow's dart | J |
That sent a shiver to my heart | J |
