Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDDEEFGHHIIJJKKL LMMJJNOMMPPQQRSSTJJ

The stream is very sweetA
To day Just see the swallow dartB
How fleetA
It sent a shiver to my heartB
If he had lived you sayC
Well well if he had lived what thenD
Some menD
Will always argue yes I know of courseE
The argument has forceE
If he had lived he might have changedF
From bad to worseG
Nay my shrewd balance setterH
Why not from good to betterH
Why not to best to joyI
And splendour O my boyI
I did not want this argument in the leastJ
My soul had ceasedJ
From doubt and questioningK
That swallow's wingK
What a transcendent rushL
Hush hushL
Or if you talk talk lowM
For do you knowM
Just as the swallow diptJ
I felt as if a soft hand sliptJ
Its fingers into mine he's nearN
He's with us 'tis not right the child should hearO
This jangling low then lowM
Or this is better goM
Go darling play upon the bankP
And prankP
Your hair with daisy and with buttercupQ
And we will meet you higher upQ
Now then If he had lived if my sweet sonR
Had lived You stareS
There thereS
'Tis gone 'tis goneT
It was the swallow's dartJ
That sent a shiver to my heartJ
