The Poet Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH EJKJ LMNM OPQP REME

He made him a love o' dreamsA
He raised for his heart's delightB
As the heart of June a crescent moonC
A frail fair spirit of lightB
-
He gave her the gift of joyD
The gift of the dancing feetE
He made her a thing of very SpringF
Virginal wild and sweetE
-
But when he would draw her nearG
To his eager heart's contentH
As a sunbeam slips from the finger tipsI
She slipped from his hold and wentH
-
Virginal wild and sweetE
So she eludes him stillJ
The love that he made of dawn and shadeK
Of dominant want and willJ
-
For ever the dream of manL
Is more than the dreamer isM
Though he form it whole of his inmost soulN
Yet never 'tis wholly hisM
-
Only is given to himO
The right to follow and yearnP
The loveliness he may not possessQ
The vision that may not turnP
-
Never to hold or to bindR
Only to know how fleetE
The dream that is and yet is not hisM
Virginal wild and sweetE
