Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG CHIH JIJI CCKC

The pick o' seven counties so they're tellin' me was thereA
Horses racin' on the track and fiddles on the greenB
Flyin' flags and blowin' horns and all that makes a fairA
I'm hearin' that the like of it was something never seenB
-
So it is they're tellin' meC
Girl dear it may be trueD
I only know the bonnet stringsE
Beneath your chin were blueD
-
I'm hearin' that the cattle came that thick they stood in rowsF
And Doolan's Timmy caught the pig and Terry climbed the poleG
They're tellin' me they showed the cream of everything that growsF
And never man had eyes enough for takin' in the wholeG
-
So it is they're tellin' meC
Girl dear it may be soH
I only know your little gownI
Was whiter than the snowH
-
They're tellin' me the gentry came from twenty miles aboutJ
And him that came from Ballinsloe sang limpin' Jamesey downI
And 'twas Himself no less stood by to give the prizes outJ
They're tellin' me you'd hear the noise from here to Dublin townI
-
So it is they're tellin' meC
Girl dear the same may beC
I only know that comin' homeK
You gave your word to meC
