The Dreamers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDB EFGFHF IJKJLJ

The gypsies passed her little gateA
She stopped her wheel to seeB
A brown faced pair who walked the roadC
Free as the wind is freeB
And suddenly her tidy roomD
A prison seemed to beB
-
Her shining plates against the wallsE
Her sunlit sanded floorF
The brass bound wedding chest that heldG
Her linen's snowy storeF
The very wheel whose humming diedH
Seemed only chains she boreF
-
She watched the foot free gypsies passI
She never knew or guessedJ
The wistful dream that drew them closeK
The longing in each breastJ
Some day to know a home like hersL
Wherein their hearts might restJ

Allen Ruble: I learned the first stanza when I was in 7th grade. I’ve never forgotten it but never remembered the title . I’m 74 now and have the whole poem in front of me ! Aren’t computers wonderful?
