I don't know muchA
But I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to hateB
Kick me to the curb so much it hurtsC
I look to you for guidanceD
And in doing so I let my gard downE
How you gonn label this generation as garbageF
Honestly I thought you'd have more faithG
So I was surprised when you didn't hold my handH
-
He-
He is just a kid who fell in love with musicI
Even though his pa told him not to do itJ
No one seems to notice a weapon until you use itJ
The kids at school ain't have much faith eitherK
Till he got on the stageL
Spit some rapsM
And had them all up in their feelingsN
Swore his words hit so deep they could feel itJ
They swear they believe in what he can doO
But he'd heard those words one too many timesP
See that's what his father saidQ
Then turned around and said his art wasn't enoughR
you kids these days need to grow up he saysS
He forgets how he's always away for workT
Been leaving his son alone for so long you'd think he wasn't hisU
-
Junior grew up too quickly-
Despite what his father thinksV
Faced so muchA
The hate was so thickI
And so the hurt became realW
Buried himself in his musicI
Just for a chance to feelW
Like he was worth somethingX
And that's when everyone noticed he had somethingX
No one notices a weapon till you use itJ
And now he's going in guns blazingX
No excusesU
Built his walls so no one would creep inY
Should have held his hand when he extended itJ
-
Mother told me not to stay out too lateB
Mother told me I'd be called lameZ
Mother told me that the world is unkind and that it would put me downE
She said when that happens little girl hold your head upA2
But when it came to it and I had my hand outB2
My mother told me my art should remain in the darkC2
I had my hand outB2
But she reminded me that to the worldD2
I'd always be a little girlE2
-
Dont get me wrongF2
Mother ain't raise no followerK
But she said timing is everythingX
So I had to wait until the world was ready to see me as moreG2
But in the meantimeH2
She said just be a girlE2
-
That's when I started keeping to myselfI2
The sparks within me turned into a fire that would burn through anythingX
No one believed my art was my ownJ2
Whether it was too good to be mine or I was too good to do that littleK2
I don't knowL2
I didn't want anyone to hold my hand anymoreG2
I used that hand to hold myself upA2
So the world wouldn't be above me no moreG2
But I agree-
I am just a young girl with alot of soulM2
But the world will have to see-
That young don't mean weakN2
Girl don't mean softO2
Rap isn't about violenceD
And no one will laugh at us no moreG2
-
I'll show them what I meanP2
Make them shiver at every sceneP2
Let's see who needs their hand held nowQ2

Poet's note: This poem expresses how most fathers want their sons to being in the corporate world. They are never around to do the simplest of things such hold their hand when they need it.They think music and arts is a waste of time. It's also about having the world see you as incapable when you are a female. And instead of mothers uplifting us they tell us to conform. All in all its about people not believing in you until you prove them wrong.Having to hold yourself up because no one else will
