On Deck Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDBE FGHIJK LKBMNB OPQRPQ STTSTT BUVBWX

Midnight in the mid Atlantic On deckA
Wrapped up in themselves as in thick veilingB
And mute as mannequins in a dress shopC
Some few passangers keep trackD
Of the old star map on the ceilingB
Tiny and far a single shipE
-
Lit like a two tiered wedding cakeF
Carries its candles slowly offG
Now there is nothing much to look atH
Still nobody will move or speakI
The bingo players the players at loveJ
On a square no bigger than a carpetK
-
Are hustled over the crests and troughsL
Each stalled in his particular minuteK
And castled in it like a kingB
Small drops spot their coats their glovesM
They fly too fast to feel the wetN
Anything can happen where they are goingB
-
The untidy lady revivalistO
For whom the good Lord provides He gaveP
Her a pocketbook a pearl hatpinQ
And seven winter coats last AugustR
Prays under her breath that she may saveP
The art students in West BerlinQ
-
The astrologer at her elbow a LeoS
Picked his trip date by the starsT
The is gratified by the absence of icecakesT
He'll be rich in a year and he should knowS
Selling the Welsh and English mothersT
Nativities at two and sixT
-
And the white haired jeweler from Denmark is carvingB
A perfectly faceted wife to waitU
On him hand and foot quiet as a diamondV
Moony balloons tied by a stringB
To their owner' wrists the light dreams floatW
To be let loose at news of landX
