A Winter Ship Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE ECFGH GFIJK LFMBN MMOPQ RSETU

At this wharf there are no grand landings to speak ofA
Red and orange barges list and blisterB
Shackled to the dock outmoded gaudyC
And apparently indestructibleD
The sea pulses under a skin of oilE
-
A gull holds his pose on a shanty ridgepoleE
Riding the tide of the wind steadyC
As wood and formal in a jacket of ashesF
The whole flat harbor anchored inG
The round of his yellow eye buttonH
-
A blimp swims up like a day moon or tinG
Cigar over his rink of fishesF
The prospect is dull as an old etchingI
They are unloading three barrels of little crabsJ
The pier pilings seem about to collapseK
-
And with them that rickety edificeL
Of warehouses derricks smokestacks and bridgesF
In the distance All around us the water slipsM
And gossips in its loose vernacularB
Ferrying the smells of cod and tarN
-
Farther out the waves will be mouthing icecakesM
A poor month for park sleepers and loversM
Even our shadows are blue with coldO
We wanted to see the sun come upP
And are met instead by this iceribbed shipQ
-
Bearded and blown an albatross of frostR
Relic of tough weather every winch and stayS
Encased in a glassy pellicleE
The sun will diminish it soon enoughT
Each wave tip glitters like a knifeU
