To James Y. Simpson Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAABCADCACCC

Oh teeming heart that for this once in vainA
Big with our good didst undeliver'd dieB
Had some god got thee with a progenyC
O'er great that born might even dispute the reignA
Of Death as Death had seen the realms of PainA
Won by thine elder brood We marvell'd whyB
So seeming careless of his sovereigntyC
He spared and spared thee doth this day explainA
The Fabian greed that grudged a needless blowD
Knowing too well what deity possestC
Thee did the dead eyed strategist foreknowA
How the huge god must choke the mortal breastC
The mortal breast deep under clod and sodC
Out of the half saved world drag down the abortive godC
