O full of Faith The Earth is rock the HeavenA
The dome of a great palace all of iceB
Russ built Dull light distils through frozen skiesC
Thickened and gross Cold Fancy droops her wingD
And cannot range In winding sheets of snowE
Lies every thought of any pleasant thingD
I have forgotten the green earth my soulF
Deflowered and lost to every summer hopeG
Sad sitteth on an iceberg at the PoleF
My heart assumes the landscape of mine eyesC
Moveless and white chill blanched with hoarest rimeH
The Sun himself is heavy and lacks cheerI
Or on the eastern hill or western slopeG
The world without seems far and long agoE
To silent woods stark famished winds have drivenA
The last lean robin gibbering winds of fearI
Thou only darest to believe in springD
Thou only smilest Lady of the TimeH
Even as the stars come up out of the seaJ
Thou risest from the Earth How is it downK
In the dark depths Should I delve there O FlowerL
For beauty Shall I find the summer thereM
Met manifold as in an ark of peaceN
And Thou a lone white Dove art thou sent forthO
Upon the winter deluge It shall ceaseN
But not for thee pierced by the ruthless NorthO
And spent with the Evangel In what hourL
The flood abates thou wilt have closed thy wingsP
For ever When the happy living thingsP
Of the old world come forth upon the newQ
I know my heart shall miss thee and the dewQ
Of summer twilights shall shed tears for meJ
Tears liker thee ah purest than mine ownR
Upon thy vestal grave O vainly fairM

Thou should'st have noble destiny who likeS
A Prophet art shut out from kind and kinT
Who on the winter silence comest inT
A still small voice Pale Hermit of the YearI
Flower of the Wilderness oh not for theeJ
The jocund playmates of the maiden springD
For when she danceth forth with cymballed feetU
Waking a sudden with great welcomingD
Each calling each they burst from hill to dellV
In answering music But thou art a bellV
A passing bell snow muffled dim and sweetU
As is the Poet to his fellow menW
So mid thy drifting snows O Snowdrop ThouX
Gifted in sooth beyond them but no lessY
A snowdrop And thou shalt complete his lotZ
And bloom as fair as now when they are notZ
Thou art the wonder of the seasons OE
First born of Beauty As the Angel nearI
Gazed on that first of living things which whenW
The blast that ruled since Chaos o'er the sereI
Leaves of primeval Palms did sweep the plainA2
Clung to the new made sod and would not driveB2
So gaze I upon thee amid the reignA2
Of Winter And because thou livest I liveB2
And art thou happy in thy lonelinessC2
Oh couldst thou hear the shouting of the floodsD2
Oh couldst thou know the stir among the treesE2
When as the herald voice of breeze on breezeE2
Proclaims the marriage pageant of the SpringD
Advancing from the South each hurries onF2
His wedding garment and the love chimes ringD
Thro' nuptial valleys No serene and loneR
I will not flush thy cheek with joys like theseE2
Songs for the rosy morning at grey primeH
To hang the head and pray Thou doest wellV
I will not tell thee of the bridal trainA2
No let thy Moonlight die before their dayG2
A Nun among the Maidens thou and theyG2
Each hath some fond sweet office that doth strikeS
One of our trembling heartstrings musicalH2
Is not the hawthorn for the Queen of MayG2
And cuckoo flowers for whom the cuckoo's voiceI2
Hails like an answering sister to the woodsJ2
Is not the maiden blushing in the roseK2
Shall not the babe and buttercup rejoiceI2
Twins in one meadow Are not violets allL2
By name or nature for the breast of DamesM2
For them the primrose pale as star of primeH
For them the wind flower trembling to a sighN2
For them the dew stands in the eyes of dayG2
That blink in April on the daisied leaJ
Like them they flourish and like them they fadeO2
And live beloved and loving But for theeJ
For such a bevy how art thou arrayedO2
Flower of the Tempests What hast thou with themH
Thou shalt be pearl unto a diademH
Which the Heavens jewel They shall deck the browsP2
Of joy and wither there But thou shalt beJ
A Martyr's garland Thou who undismayedO2
To thy spring dreams art true amid the snowsK2
As he to better dreams amid the flamesM2
