Sea Ballad - From Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDB DEDEE AFGGBH IIBH HJKJBH CIAI LMBHMLLC

HOW many said our good CaptainA
Twenty sail and moreB
We were homeward boundC
Scudding in a gale with our jib towards the NoreB
Right athwart our tackD
The foe came thick and blackD
Like Hell birds and foul weather you might count them by the scoreB
-
The Betsy Jane did slackD
To see the game in viewE
They knew the Union JackD
And the tyrant s flag we knewE
Our Captain shouted Clear the decks and the Bo sun s whistle blewE
-
Then our gallant CaptainA
With his hand he seiz d the wheelF
And pointed with his stump to the middle of the foeG
Hurray lads in we goG
You should hear the British cheerB
Fore and aftH
-
There are twenty sail sang heI
But little Betsy Jane bobs to nothing on the seaI
You should hear the British cheerB
Fore and aftH
-
See you ugly craftH
With the pennon at her mainJ
Hurrah my merry boysK
There goes the Betsy JaneJ
You should hear the British cheerB
Fore and aftH
-
The foe he beats to quarters and the Russian bugles soundC
And the little Betsy Jane she leaps upon the seaI
Port and starboard cried our CaptainA
Pay it in my hearts sang heI
-
We re old England s sonsL
And we ll fight for her to dayM
You should hear the British cheerB
Fore and aftH
Fire awayM
In she runsL
And her gunsL
Thunder roundC
