HO Sailor of the seaA
How s my boy my boyB
What s your boy s name good wifeC
And in what good ship sail'd heA
My boy John He that went to seaA
What care I for the ship sailorD
My boy's my boy to meA
You come back from seaA
And not know my JohnE
I might as well have ask d some landsmanF
Yonder down in the townG
There s not an ass in all the parishH
But he knows my JohnE
-
How s my boy my boyB
And unless you let me knowI
I ll swear you are no sailorD
Blue jacket or noI
Brass buttons or no sailorD
Anchor and crown or noI
Sure his ship was the Jolly BritonF
Speak low woman speak lowI
And why should I speak low sailorD
About my own boy JohnE
If I was loud as I am proudJ
I d sing him over the townG
Why should I speak low sailorD
That good ship went downG
-
How s my boy my boyB
What care I for the ship sailorD
I was never aboard herD
Be she afloat or be she agroundK
Sinking or swimming I ll be boundK
Her owners can afford herD
I say how s my JohnE
Every man on board went downG
Every man aboard herD
How s my boy my boyB
What care I for the men sailorD
I m not their motherD
How s my boy my boyB
Tell me of him and no otherD
How s my boy my boyB
