The murmur of the mourning ghostA
That keeps the shadowy kineB
Oh Keith of RavelstonB
The sorrows of thy lineB
-
Ravelston RavelstonB
The merry path that leadsC
Down the golden morning hillD
And thro' the silver meadsC
-
Ravelston RavelstonB
The stile beneath the treeE
The maid that kept her mother's kineB
The song that sang sheE
-
She sang her song she kept her kineB
She sat beneath the thornB
When Andrew Keith of RavelstonB
Rode thro' the Monday mornB
-
His henchmen sing his hawk bells ringF
His belted jewels shineB
Oh Keith of RavelstonB
The sorrows of thy lineB
-
Year after year where Andrew cameG
Comes evening down the gladeH
And still there sits a moonshine ghostA
Where sat the sunshine maidH
-
Her misty hair is faint and fairI
She keeps the shadowy kineB
Oh Keith of RavelstonB
The sorrows of thy lineB
-
I lay my hand upon the stileJ
The stile is lone and coldK
The burnie that goes babbling byL
Says nought that can be toldK
-
Yet stranger here from year to yearM
She keeps her shadowy kineB
Oh Keith of RavelstonB
The sorrows of thy lineB
-
Step out three steps where Andrew stoodN
Why blanch thy cheeks for fearM
The ancient stile is not aloneB
'Tis not the burn I hearO
-
She makes her immemorial moanB
She keeps her shadowy kineB
Oh Keith of RavelstonB
The sorrows of thy lineB
