The Spirit Of Motion Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGHH IIJJKKLLMMNOEEPPP

Spirit of eternal motionA
Ruler of the stormy oceanA
Lifter of the restless wavesB
Rider of the blast that ravesB
Hoarsely through yon lofty oakC
Bending to thy mystic strokeC
Man from age to age has soughtD
Thy secret but it baffles thoughtD
-
Agent of the DeityE
Offspring of eternityE
Guider of the steeds of timeF
Along the starry track sublimeF
Founder of each wondrous artG
Mover of the human heartG
Since the world's primeval dayH
All nature has confessed thy swayH
-
They who strive thy laws to findI
Might as well arrest the windI
Measure out the drops of rainJ
Count the sands which bound the mainJ
Quell the earthquake's sullen shockK
Chain the eagle to the rockK
Bid the sun his heat assuageL
The mountain torrent cease to rageL
Spirit active and divineM
Life and all its powers are thineM
Guided by the first great causeN
Sun and moon obey thy lawsO
Which to man must ever beE
A wonder and a mysteryE
Known alone to him who gaveP
Thee sovereignty o'er wind and waveP
And only chained thee in the graveP
