How The Leaves Came Down Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABB CDCDD DEDEE FGFGG HIHII DJDKJ LBLMB

I'll tell you how the leaves came downA
The great tree to his children saidB
You're getting sleepy Yellow and BrownA
Yes very sleepy little RedB
It is quite time to go to bedB
-
Ah begged each silly pouting leafC
Let us a little longer stayD
Dear Father Tree behold our griefC
Tis such a very pleasant dayD
We do not want to go awayD
-
So for just one more merry dayD
To the great tree the leaflets clungE
Frolicked and danced and had their wayD
Upon the autumn breezes swungE
Whispering all their sports amongE
-
Perhaps the great tree will forgetF
And let us stay until the springG
If we all beg and coax and fretF
But the great tree did no such thingG
He smiled to hear their whisperingG
-
Come children all to bed he criedH
And ere the leaves could urge their prayerI
He shook his head and far and wideH
Fluttering and rustling everywhereI
Down sped the leaflets through the airI
-
I saw them on the ground they layD
Golden and red a huddled swarmJ
Waiting till one from far awayD
White bedclothes heaped upon her armK
Should come to wrap them safe and warmJ
-
The great bare tree looked down and smiledL
Good night dear little leaves he saidB
And from below each sleepy childL
Replied Good night and murmuredM
It is so nice to go to bedB
