Una Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBAB CDECD FGGFG HIIHI JKKJK LMMLM BNNBN OEPOP QLLQR SKKSKMy darling once lived by my side | A |
She scarcely ever went away | B |
We shared our studies and our play | B |
Nor did she care to walk or ride | A |
Unless I did the same that day | B |
- | |
Now she is gone to some far place | C |
I never see her any more | D |
The pleasant play times all are o'er | E |
I come from school there is no face | C |
To greet me at the open door | D |
- | |
At first I cried all day all night | F |
I could not bear to eat or smile | G |
I missed her missed her all the while | G |
The brightest day did not look bright | F |
The shortest walk was like a mile | G |
- | |
Then some one came and told me this | H |
Your playmate is but gone from view | I |
Close by your side she stands and you | I |
Can almost hear her breathe and kiss | H |
Her soft cheek as you used to do | I |
- | |
Only a little veil between | J |
A slight thin veil if you could see | K |
Past its gray folds there she would be | K |
Smiling and sweet and she would lean | J |
And stretch her hands out joyfully | K |
- | |
All the day long and year by year | L |
She will go forward as you go | M |
As you grow older she will grow | M |
As you grow good she with her clear | L |
And angel eyes will mark and know | M |
- | |
Think when you wake up every day | B |
That she is standing by your bed | N |
Close to the pillow where her head | N |
Her little curly head once lay | B |
With a 'Good morning' smiled not said | N |
- | |
Think when the hooks seem dull and tame | O |
The sports no longer what they were | E |
That there she sits a shape of air | P |
And turns the leaf or joins the game | O |
With the same smile she used to wear | P |
- | |
So moving on still hand in hand | Q |
One of these days your eyes will clear | L |
The hiding veil will disappear | L |
And you will know and understand | Q |
Just why your playmate left you here | R |
- | |
This made me happier and I try | S |
To think each day that it may be | K |
Sometimes I do so easily | K |
But then again I have to cry | S |
Because I want so much to SEE | K |
