In The Mist. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAB CDCED EFFEF GHEGH IJJKJ ABBAB ELEEL GEEGE MDDMD

Sitting all day in a silver mistA
In silver silence all the dayB
Save for the low soft kiss of sprayB
And the lisp of sands by waters kissedA
As the tide draws up the bayB
-
Little I hear and nothing I seeC
Wrapped in that veil by fairies spunD
The solid earth is vanished for meC
And the shining hours speed noiselesslyE
A web of shadow and sunD
-
Suddenly out of the shifting veilE
A magical bark by the sunbeams litF
Flits like a dream or seems to flitF
With a golden prow and a gossamer sailE
And the waves make room for itF
-
A fair swift bark from some radiant realmG
Its diamond cordage cuts the skyH
In glittering lines all silentlyE
A seeming spirit holds the helmG
And steers will he pass me byH
-
Ah not for me is the vessel hereI
Noiseless and fast as a sea bird's flightJ
She swerves and vanishes from my sightJ
No flap of sail no parting cheerK
She has passed into the lightJ
-
Sitting some day in a deeper mistA
Silent alone some other dayB
An unknown bark from an unknown bayB
By unknown waters lapped and kissedA
Shall near me through the sprayB
-
No flap of sail no scraping of keelE
Shadow dim with a banner darkL
It will hover will pause and I shall feelE
A hand which beckons and shivering stealE
To the cold strand and embarkL
-
Embark for that far mysterious realmG
Whence the fathomless trackless waters flowE
Shall I see a Presence dim and knowE
A Gracious Hand upon the helmG
Nor be afraid to goE
-
And through black wave and stormy blastM
And out of the fog wreath dense and dunD
Guided and held shall the vessel runD
Gain the fair haven night being pastM
And anchor in the sunD
