Ebb-tide Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDEFFGG HHDEIIJJKKGG LLMMAANNOOGG

Long reaches of wet grasses swayA
Where ran the sea but yesterdayA
And white winged boats at sunset drewB
To anchor in the crimsoning blueB
The boats lie on the grassy plainC
Nor tug nor fret at anchor chainC
Their errand done their impulse spentD
Chained by an alien elementE
With sails unset they idly lieF
Though morning beckons brave and nighF
Like wounded birds their flight deniedG
They lie and long and wait the tideG
-
About their keels within the netH
Of tough grass fibres green and wetH
A myriad thirsty creatures pentD
In sorrowful imprisonmentE
Await the beat distinct and sweetI
Of the white waves' returning feetI
My soul their vigil joins and sharesJ
A nobler discontent than theirsJ
Athirst like them I patientlyK
Sit listening beside the seaK
And still the waters outward glideG
When is the turning of the tideG
-
Come pulse of God come heavenly thrillL
We wait thy coming and we willL
The world is vast and very farM
Its utmost verge and boundaries areM
But thou hast kept thy word to dayA
In India and in dim CathayA
And the same mighty care shall reachN
Each humblest rock pool of this beachN
The gasping fish the stranded keelO
This dull dry soul of mine shall feelO
Thy freshening touch and satisfiedG
Shall drink the fulness of the tideG
