Easter Lilies. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GBGB HIHI BJBJ KHKH

Darlings of June and brides of summer sunA
Chill pipes the stormy wind the skies are drearB
Dull and despoiled the gardens every oneA
What do you hereB
-
We looked to see your gracious blooms ariseC
Mid soft and wooing airs in gardens greenD
Where venturesome brown bees and butterfliesC
Should hail you queenD
-
Here is no bee nor glancing butterflyE
They fled on rapid wings before the snowF
Your sister lilies laid them down to dieE
Long long agoF
-
And here amid the slowly dropping rainG
We keep our Easter feast with hearts whose careB
Mars the high cadence of each lofty strainG
Each thankful prayerB
-
But not a shadow dims your joyance sweetH
No baffled hope or memory darkly cladI
You lay your whiteness at the Lord's dear feetH
And are all gladI
-
O coward soul arouse thee and draw nearB
Led by these fragrant acolytes to dayJ
Let their sweet confidence rebuke thy fearB
Thy cold delayJ
-
Come with thy darkness to the healing lightK
Come with thy bitter which shall be made sweetH
And lay thy soil beside the lilies whiteK
At His dear feetH
