April. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABAB ACAC DEDE ABAB AFAF GHGI GJGJ GKGK DLDL MNLNHark upon the east wind piping creeping | A |
Comes a voice all clamorous with despair | B |
It is April crying sore and weeping | A |
O'er the chilly earth so brown and bare | B |
- | |
When I went away she murmurs sobbing | A |
All my violet banks were starred with blue | C |
Who O who has been here basely robbing | A |
Bloom and odor from the fragrant crew | C |
- | |
Who has reft the robin's hidden treasure | D |
All the speckled spheres he loved so well | E |
And the buds which danced in merry measure | D |
To the chiming of the hyacinth's bell | E |
- | |
Where are all my hedge rows flushed with Maying | A |
And the leafy rain that tossed so fair | B |
Like the spray from silver fountains playing | A |
Where the elm tree's column rose in air | B |
- | |
All are vanished and my heart is breaking | A |
And my tears they slowly drip and fall | F |
Only death could listen without waking | A |
To the grief and passion of my call | F |
- | |
Thus she plaineth Then ten million voices | G |
Tiny murmurous like drops of rain | H |
Raised in song as when the wind rejoices | G |
Ring the answer We are here again | I |
- | |
We were hiding April Did you miss us | G |
None of us were really gone away | J |
Stoop thy pretty head and gently kiss us | G |
Once before we all come out to play | J |
- | |
Here are all the clustering burls of roses | G |
And the dandelion's mimic sun | K |
Of thy much beloved and vanished posies | G |
None are missing not a single one | K |
- | |
Little points of green push out to greet her | D |
Little creepers grasp her garment's hem | L |
Hidden sweetnesses grow ever sweeter | D |
As she bends and brightly smiles at them | L |
- | |
Every tear is answered by a blossom | M |
Every high with songs and laughter blent | N |
Apple blooms upon the breezes toss them | L |
April knows her own and is content | N |
