Talk Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGG

Tobacco smoke drifts up to the dim ceilingA
From half a dozen pipes and cigarettesB
Curling in endless shapes in blue rings wheelingA
As formless as our talk Phil drawling betsB
Cornell will win the relay in a walkC
While Bob and Mac discuss the Giants' chancesD
Deep in a morris chair Bill scowls at FalkC
John gives large views about the last few dancesD
-
And so it goes an idle speech and aimlessE
A few chance phrases yet I see behindF
The empty words the gleam of a beauty tamelessE
Friendship and peace and fire to strike men blindF
Till the whole world seems small and bright to holdG
Of all our youth this hour is pure goldG
