Rain After A Vaudeville Show Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIJJ KLKLMMNNOO

The last pose flickered failed The screen's dead whiteA
Glared in a sudden flooding of harsh lightA
Stabbing the eyes and as I stumbled outB
The curtain rose A fat girl with a poutB
And legs like hams began to sing His MotherC
Gusts of bad air rose in a choking smotherC
Smoke the wet steam of clothes the stench of plushD
Powder cheap perfume mingled in a rushD
I stepped into the lobby and stood stillE
Struck dumb by sudden beauty body and willE
Cleanness and rapture excellence made plainF
The storming thrashing arrows of the rainF
Pouring and dripping on the roofs and rodsG
Smelling of woods and hills and fresh turned sodsG
Black on the sidewalks gray in the far skyH
Crashing on thirsty panes on gutters dryH
Hurrying the crowd to shelter making fairI
The streets the houses and the heat soaked airI
Merciful holy charging sweeping flashingJ
It smote the soul with a most iron clashingJ
Like dragons' eyes the street lamps suddenly gleamedK
Yellow and round and dim low globes of flameL
And scarce perceived the clouds' tall banners streamedK
Out of the petty wars the daily shameL
Beauty strove suddenly and rose and floweredM
I gripped my coat and plunged where awnings loweredM
Made one with hissing blackness caught embracedN
By splendor and by striving and swift hasteN
Spring coming in with thunderings and strifeO
I stamped the ground in the strong joy of lifeO
