Music Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABCBDDEEFFGHIIJJKKL LMNOONNMy friend went to the piano spun the stool | A |
A little higher left his pipe to cool | A |
Picked up a fat green volume from the chest | B |
And propped it open | C |
Whitely without rest | B |
His fingers swept the keys that flashed like swords | D |
And to the brute drums of barbarian hordes | D |
Roaring and thunderous and weapon bare | E |
An army stormed the bastions of the air | E |
Dreadful with banners fire to slay and parch | F |
Marching together as the lightnings march | F |
And swift as storm clouds Brazen helms and cars | G |
Clanged to a fierce resurgence of old wars | H |
Above the screaming horns In state they passed | I |
Trampling and splendid on and sought the vast | I |
Rending the darkness like a leaping knife | J |
The flame the noble pageant of our life | J |
The burning seal that stamps man's high indenture | K |
To vain attempt and most forlorn adventure | K |
Romance and purple seas and toppling towns | L |
And the wind's valiance crying o'er the downs | L |
That nerves the silly hand the feeble brain | M |
From the loose net of words to deeds again | N |
And to all courage Perilous and sharp | O |
The last chord shook me as wind shakes a harp | O |
And my friend swung round on his stool and from gods we were men | N |
How pretty we said and went on with our talk again | N |
