Going Back To School Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACBDDECFGHGFIIIIJI IKIKJLLMMNN

The boat ploughed on Now Alcatraz was pastA
And all the grey waves flamed to red againB
At the dead sun's last glimmer Far and vastA
The Sausalito lights burned suddenlyC
In little dots and clumps as if a penB
Had scrawled vague lines of gold across the hillsD
The sky was like a cup some rare wine fillsD
And stars came as he watchedE
and he was freeC
One splendid instant back in the great roomF
Curled in a chair with all of them besideG
And the whole world a rush of happy voicesH
With laughter beating in a clamorous tideG
Saw once again the heat of harvest fumeF
Up to the empty sky in threads like glassI
And ran and was a part of what rejoicesI
In thunderous nights of rain lay in the grassI
Sun baked and tired looking through a mazeI
Of tiny stems into a new green worldJ
Once more knew eves of perfume days ablazeI
With clear dry heat on the brown rolling fieldsI
Shuddered with fearful ecstasy in bedK
Over a book of knights and bloody shieldsI
The ship slowed jarred and stopped There straight aheadK
Were dock and fellows Stumbling he was whirledJ
Out and away to meet them and his backL
Slumped to the old half cringe his hands fell slackL
A big boy's arm went round him and a twistM
Sent shattering pain along his tortured wristM
As a voice cried a bloated voice and fatN
Why it's Miss Nancy Come along you ratN
