Next then the peacock giltA
With all its feathers Look what gorgeous dyesB
Flow in the eyesB
And how deep lustrous greens are splashed and spiltA
Along the back that like a sea wave's crestC
Scatters soft beauty o'er th' emblazoned breastC
-
A strange fowl But most fitD
For feasts like this whereby I honor oneE
Pure as the sunE
Yet glowing with the fiery zeal of itD
Some wine Your goblet's empty Let it foamF
It is not often that you come to RomeF
-
You like the Venice glassG
Rippled with lines that float like women's curlsH
Neck like a girl'sH
Fierce glowing as a chalice in the MassG
You start 'twas artist then not Pope who spokeI
Ave Maria stella ah it brokeI
-
'Tis said they break aloneJ
When poison writhes within A foolish taleK
What you look paleK
Caraffa fetch a silver cup You ownJ
A Birth of Venus now or so I've heardL
Lovely as the breast plumage of a birdL
-
Also a Dancing FaunJ
Hewn with the lithe grace of PraxitelesG
Globed pearls to pleaseG
A sultan golden veils that drop like lawnJ
How happy I could be with but a titheM
Of your possessions fortunate one Don't writheN
-
But take these cushions hereO
Now for the fruit Great peaches satin skinnedP
Rough tamarindP
Pomegranates red as lips oh they come dearQ
But men like you we feast at any priceG
A plum perhaps They're looking rather niceG
-
I'll cut the thing in halfR
There's yours Now with a one side poisoned knifeS
One might snuff lifeS
And leave one's friend with fool for epitaphR
An old trick Truth But when one has the itchT
For pretty things and isn't very richT
-
There eat it all or I'llU
Be angry You feel giddy Well it's hotP
This bergamotP
Take home and smell it purges blood of bileU
And when you kiss Bianca's dimpled kneeJ
Think of the poor Pope in his miseryJ
-
Now you may kiss my ringV
Ho there the Cardinal's litter You must dineJ
When the new wineJ
Is in again with me hear Bice singV
Even admire my frescoes though they're noughtP
Beside the calm Greek glories you have boughtP
-
Godspeed Sir CardinalW
And take a weak man's blessing Help him thereX
To the cool airX
Lucrezia here You're ready for the ballY
He'll die within ten hours I supposeG
Mhm Kiss your poor old father little roseG
