My Old Kentucky Home, Good Night! Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE BFAB GDGDHEHE BFAB IJIJKEKE BFAB

The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky homeA
'Tis summer the darkies are gayB
The corn top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloomC
While the birds make music all the dayB
The young folks roll on the little cabin floorD
All merry all happy and brightE
By'n by Hard Times comes a knocking at the doorD
Then my old Kentucky Home good nightE
-
Chorus Weep no more my lady oh weep no more to dayB
We will sing one songF
For the old Kentucky HomeA
For the old Kentucky Home far awayB
-
Solo They hunt no more for the possum and the coonG
On the meadow the hill and the shoreD
They sing no more by the glimmer of the moonG
On the bench by the old cabin doorD
The day goes by like a shadow o'er the heartH
With sorrow where all was delightE
The time has come when the darkies have to partH
Then my old Kentucky Home good nightE
-
Chorus Weep no more my lady oh weep no more to dayB
We will sing one songF
For the old Kentucky HomeA
For the old Kentucky Home far awayB
-
Solo The head must bow and the back will have to bendI
Wherever the darkey may goJ
A few more days and the trouble all will endI
In the field where the sugar canes growJ
A few more days for to tote the weary loadK
No matter 'twill never be lightE
A few more days till we totter on the roadK
Then my old Kentucky Home good nightE
-
Chorus Weep no more my lady oh weep no more to dayB
We will sing one songF
For the old Kentucky HomeA
For the old Kentucky Home far awayB
