The Schoolfellow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFG

Our game was his but yesteryearA
We wished him back we could not knowB
The self same hour we missed him hereC
He led the line that broke the foeB
-
Blood red behind our guarded postsD
Sank as of old and dying dayE
The battle ceased the mingled hostsD
Weary and cheery went their wayE
-
To morrow well may bring we saidF
As fair a fight as clear a sunG
Dear Lad before the world was spedF
For evermore thy goal was wonG
