When England sets her banner forthA
And bids her armour shineB
She'll not forget the famous NorthA
The lads of moor and TyneB
And when the loving cup's in handC
And Honour leads the cryD
They know not old NorthumberlandC
Who'll pass her memory byD
-
When Nelson sailed for TrafalgarE
With all his country's bestC
He held them dear as brothers areF
But one beyond the restC
For when the fleet with heroes mannedC
To clear the decks beganG
The boast of old NorthumberlandC
He sent to lead the vanG
-
Himself by Victory's bulwark stoodC
And cheered to see the sightC
'That noble fellow CollingwoodC
How bold he goes to fight '-
Love that the league of Ocean spannedC
Heard him face to faceH
'What would he give NorthumberlandC
To share our pride of place '-
-
The flag that goes the world aroundC
And flaps on every breezeI
Has never gladdened fairer groundC
Or kinder hearts than theseI
So when the loving cup's in handC
And Honour leads the cryD
They know not old NorthumberlandC
Who'll pass her memory byD
