Of A Ballad Sung By H Plunket Greene To His Old SchoolA
-
Twice three hundred boys were weB
Long ago long agoC
Where the Downs look out to the Severn SeaB
Clifton for ayeD
We held by the game and hailed the teamE
For many could play where few could dreamE
City of Song shall stand alwayB
-
Some were for profit and some for prideF
Long ago long agoC
Some for the flag they lived and diedF
Clifton for ayeD
The work of the world must still be doneG
And minds are many though truth be oneG
City of Song shall stand alwayB
-
But a lad there was to his fellows sangH
Long ago long agoC
And soon the world to his music rangH
Clifton for ayeD
Follow your Captains crown your KingsI
But what will ye give to the lad that singsI
City of Song shall stand alwayB
-
For the voice ye hear is the voice of homeJ
Long ago long agoC
And the voice of Youth with the world to roamJ
Clifton for ayeD
The voice of passion and human tearsK
And the voice of the vision that lights the yearsL
City of Song shall stand alwayB
