Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDD EFEFGG HIHIJJ KLKLMM NONOI

After HoraceA
-
Let others praise as fancy willsB
Berlin beneath her treesC
Or Rome upon her seven hillsB
Or Venice by her seasC
Stamboul by double tides embracedD
Or green Damascus in the wasteD
-
For me there's nought I would not leaveE
For the good Devon landF
Whose orchards down the echoing cleeveE
Bedewed with spray drift standF
And hardly bear the red fruit upG
That shall be next year's cider cupG
-
You too my friend may wisely markH
How clear skies follow rainI
And lingering in your own green parkH
Or drilled on Laffan's PlainI
Forget not with the festal bowlJ
To soothe at times your weary soulJ
-
When Drake must bid to Plymouth HoeK
Good bye for many a dayL
And some were sad and feared to goK
And some that dared not stayL
Be sure he bade them broach the bestM
And raised his tankard with the restM
-
'Drake's luck to all that sail with DrakeN
For promised lands of goldO
Brave lads whatever storms may breakN
We've weathered worse of oldO
To night the loving cup we'll drainI
To morrow for the Spanish Main '-
