The Fathers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEFGHGH

Snug at the club two fathers satA
Gross goggle eyed and full of chatA
One of them said My eldest ladB
Writes cheery letters from BagdadB
But Arthur's getting all the funC
At Arras with his nine inch gunC
-
Yes wheezed the other that's the luckD
My boy's quite broken hearted stuckD
In England training all this yearE
Still if there's truth in what we hearF
The Huns intend to ask for moreG
Before they bolt across the RhineH
I watched them toddle through the doorG
These impotent old friends of mineH
