Winter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKM NONO PQPQ RSRS

No more the morn with tepid raysA
Unfolds the flower of various hueB
Noon spreads no more the genial blazeA
Nor gentle eve distills the dewB
-
The lingering hours prolong the nightC
Usurping darkness shares the dayD
Her mists restrain the force of lightC
And Phoebus holds a doubtful swayD
-
By gloomy twilight half revealedE
With sighs we view the hoary hillF
The leafless wood the naked fieldE
The snow topp'd cot the frozen rillF
-
No music warbles through the groveG
No vivid colours paint the plainH
No more with devious steps I roveG
Through verdant paths now sought in vainH
-
Aloud the driving tempest roarsI
Congeal'd impetuous showers descendJ
Haste close the window bar the doorsI
Fate leaves me Stella and a friendJ
-
In nature's aid let art supplyK
With light and heat my little sphereL
Rouse rouse the fire and pile it highK
Light up a constellation hereM
-
Let music sound the voice of joyN
Or mirth repeat the jocund taleO
Let love his wanton wiles employN
And o'er the season wine prevailO
-
Yet time life's dreary winter bringsP
When mirth's gay tale shall please no moreQ
Nor music charm though Stella singsP
Nor love nor wine the spring restoreQ
-
Catch the O catch the transient hourR
Improve each moment as it fliesS
Life's a short Summer man a flowerR
He dies alas how soon he diesS
