On Lyce - An Elderly Lady Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGF HIHJ KLKL CMCM

Ye nymphs whom starry rays investA
By flattering poets givenB
Who shine by lavish lovers dress'dA
In all the pomp of heavenB
-
Engross not all the beams on highC
Which gild a lover's laysD
But as your sister of the skyC
Let Lyce share the praiseD
-
Her silver locks display the moonE
Her brows a cloudy showF
Striped rainbows round her eyes are seenG
And showers from either flowF
-
Her teeth the night with darkness dyesH
She's starr'd with pimples o'erI
Her tongue like nimble lightning pliesH
And can with thunder roarJ
-
But some Zelinda while I singK
Deny my Lyce shinesL
And all the pen of Cupid's wingK
Attack my gentle linesL
-
Yet spite of fair Zelinda's eyeC
And all her bards expressM
My Lyce makes as good a skyC
And I but flatter lessM
