Sonnet Xxvii: Oft And In Vain Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEBEBFF| Oft and in vain my rebel thoughts have ventur'd | A |
| To stop the passage of my vanquisht heart | B |
| And shut those ways my friendly foe first enter'd | A |
| Hoping thereby to free my better part | B |
| And whilst I guard these windows of this fort | C |
| Where my heart's thief to vex me made her choice | D |
| And thither all my forces do transport | C |
| Another passage opens at her voice | D |
| Her voice betrays me to her hand and eye | E |
| My freedom's tyrants conquering all by art | B |
| But ah what glory can she get thereby | E |
| With three such powers to plague one silly heart | B |
| Yet my soul's sovereign since I must resign | F |
| Reign in my thoughts my love and life are thine | F |
