Sonnet Xlii: When Winter Snows Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDDDEFGFHH

When Winter snows upon thy golden hairsA
And frost of age hath nipt thy flowers nearB
When dark shall seem thy day that never clearsC
And all lies wither'd that was held so dearB
Then take this picture which I here present theeD
Limn'd with a pencil not all unworthyD
Here see the gifts that God and Nature lent theeD
Here read thy self and what I suffer'd for theeD
This may remain thy lasting monumentE
Which happily posterity may cherishF
These colors with thy fading are not spentG
These may remain when thou and I shall perishF
If they remain then thou shalt live therebyH
They will remain and so thou canst not dieH
