Rhyme Scheme: ABCB ADED FGHG IJKJ LMNM OPQP R

The proper way for a man to prayA
Said Deacon Lemuel KeyesB
And the only proper attitudeC
Is down upon his kneesB
-
No I should say the way to prayA
Said Rev Doctor WiseD
Is standing straight with outstretched armsE
And rapt and upturned eyesD
-
Oh no no no said Elder SlowF
Such posture is too proudG
A man should pray with eyes fast closedH
And head contritely bowedG
-
It seems to me his hands should beI
Austerely clasped in frontJ
With both thumbs pointing toward the groundK
Said Rev Doctor BluntJ
-
Las' year I fell in Hodgkin's wellL
Head first said Cyrus BrownM
With both my heels a stickin' upN
My head a pinting downM
-
An' I made a prayer right then an' thereO
Best prayer I ever saidP
The prayingest prayer I ever prayedQ
A standing on my headP
