Upon Christ's Nativity, Or Christmas Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCD EFGGHHIIJJJJ KKLA

From three dark places Christ came forth this dayA
From first His Father's bosom where He layA
Concealed till now then from the typic lawB
Where we His manhood but by figures sawB
And lastly from His mother's womb He cameC
To us a perfect God and perfect ManD
-
Now in a manger lies the eternal WordE
The Word He is yet can no speech affordF
He is the Bread of Life yet hungry liesG
The Living Fountain yet for drink He criesG
He cannot help or clothe Himself at needH
Who did the lilies clothe and ravens feedH
He is the Light of Lights yet now doth shroudI
His glory with our nature as a cloudI
He came to us a Little One that weJ
Like little children might in malice beJ
Little He is and wrapped in clouts lest HeJ
Might strike us dead if clothed with majestyJ
-
Christ had four beds and those not soft nor braveK
The Virgin's womb the manger cross and graveK
The angels sing this day and so will IL
That have more reason to be glad than theyA
