One is so fair I turn to goB
As others go its beckoning lengthC
Such paths can never lead to woeB
I say in eager early strengthC
What is the goalD
Visions of heaven wakeE
But the wind's whispers round me rollD
For you mistakeE

LOVEF
-
-
One leads beneath high oaks and birdsG
Choose there their joyous revelryH
The sunbeams glint in golden herdsG
The river mirrors silentlyH
Under these treesI
My heart would bound or breakE
Tell me what goal resonant breezeI
For you mistakeE
-
-
CHARITYH
-
-
What is there left The arid wayJ
The chilling height whence all the worldK
Looks little and each radiant dayJ
Like the soul's banner flies unfurledK
May I stand hereL
In this rare ether slakeE
My reverential lips and fearM
No last mistakeE
-
Some spirits wander till they dieN
With shattered thoughts and trembling handsO
What jarred their natures hopelesslyH
No living wight yet understandsO
There is no goalD
Whatever end they makeE
Though prayers each trusting step controlD
They win mistakeE
-
This is so true we dare not learnP
Its force until our hopes are oldQ
And skyward God's star beacons burnP
The brighter as our hearts grow coldQ
If all we missR
In the great plans that shakeE
The world still God has need of thisR
Even our mistakeE
