The Lost Battle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB CCCC CDEF CGCH ICCC

To his heart it struck such terrorA
That he laughed a laugh of scornB
The man in the soldier's doubletC
With the sword so bravely wornB
-
It struck his heart like the frost windC
To find his comrades fledC
While the battle field was guardedC
By the heroes who lay deadC
-
He drew his sword in the sunlightC
And called with a long hallooD
Dead men there is one livingE
Shall stay it out with youF
-
He raised a ragged standardC
This lonely soul in warG
And called the foe to onsetC
With shouts they heard afarH
-
They galloped swiftly toward himI
The banner floated wideC
It sank he sank beside itC
Upon his sword and diedC
