Welsh Landscape Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQJDL GRSTUVWXABCDEFGHIJKL MNOPQJDLGRSTUVWXY

To live in Wales is to be consciousA
At dusk of the spilled bloodB
That went into the making of the wild skyC
Dyeing the immaculate riversD
In all their coursesE
It is to be awareF
Above the noisy tractorG
And hum of the machineH
Of strife in the strung woodsI
Vibrant with sped arrowsJ
You cannot live in the presentK
At least not in WalesL
There is the language for instanceM
The soft consonantsN
Strange to the earO
There are cries in the dark at nightP
As owls answer the moonQ
And thick ambush of shadowsJ
Hushed at the fields' cornersD
There is no present in WalesL
And no futureG
There is only the pastR
Brittle with relicsS
Wind bitten towers and castlesT
With sham ghostsU
Mouldering quarries and minesV
And an impotent peopleW
Sick with inbreedingX
Worrying the carcase of an old song To live in Wales is to be consciousA
At dusk of the spilled bloodB
That went into the making of the wild skyC
Dyeing the immaculate riversD
In all their coursesE
It is to be awareF
Above the noisy tractorG
And hum of the machineH
Of strife in the strung woodsI
Vibrant with sped arrowsJ
You cannot live in the presentK
At least not in WalesL

There are cries in the dark at nightP

There is only the pastR
