To live in Wales is to be conscious	A
At dusk of the spilled blood	B
That went into the making of the wild sky	C
Dyeing the immaculate rivers	D
In all their courses	E
It is to be aware	F
Above the noisy tractor	G
And hum of the machine	H
Of strife in the strung woods	I
Vibrant with sped arrows	J
You cannot live in the present	K
At least not in Wales	L
There is the language for instance	M
The soft consonants	N
Strange to the ear	O
There are cries in the dark at night	P
As owls answer the moon	Q
And thick ambush of shadows	J
Hushed at the fields' corners	D
There is no present in Wales	L
And no future	G
There is only the past	R
Brittle with relics	S
Wind bitten towers and castles	T
With sham ghosts	U
Mouldering quarries and mines	V
And an impotent people	W
Sick with inbreeding	X
